Steve and Kate's

Site Directors

Liz Upchurch-Berkeley Site Director

After taking an 8-month trip around the world, Liz found that the best place on earth to spend the summer is Steve and Kate's Camp. In her second summer with us, Liz will be the Site Director at our Kentfield location. Liz is originally from Ohio where she spent almost 10 years developing and implementing innovative programs for children and youth with a non-profit organization. At an early age, Liz developed a love for food and cooking and she can often be found testing new recipes in the Culinary Arts Studio to find the perfect summer snack.

Mike "Mikey T" Taylor-Kentfield Site Director

Mike is back for his second summer at Steve and Kate's Camp. His is an elementary school teacher in the off season. More bio to come.

Jamil Dawsari-Novato Site Director

This is Jamil's 2nd summer at Steve & Kate's Camp. After a career designing and producing video games, his children convinced him to join them at Steve & Kate's Camp for the summer. As he couldn't quite figure out how to attend as a camper, he decided the next best thing was to work there. During his downtime, Jamil attends Sonoma State University where he is working towards his teaching credential.

Jane Orr-Palo Alto Site Director

Jane is the Site Director for our Palo Alto site. She comes to us with a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences and worked for many years as an environmental consultant and project manager before pursuing a career in education. Before coming to Steve and Kate's Camp, Jane was working as a nature and outdoor educator. Originally from England, Jane believes that pretty much all of life's crises can be solved by a proper cup of tea.

Alli Tobin-San Francisco Site Director (Lycée)

Born and raised in Mill Valley, CA, Alli has known Steve and Kate since she was 6 yrs-old. After graduating from Georgetown University in Washington DC, she has traveled extensively through Asia, South America and Europe, including one year spent teaching English to children on a small fishing island in Japan. More recently she worked at Salesforce.com in San Francisco and volunteers for Refugee Transitions. When she isn't working, Alli loves to escape the city and hike the Marin Headlands or Stinson Beach.

Matty O'Hare-San Francisco Site Director (Town)

Matty comes to us with a wide variety of experiences. He has taught 4 and 5 year olds how to ski in Idaho, analyzed stocks for a hedge fund in Boston, traveled the beaches of Australia writing for a travel guide, and coached lacrosse for a team of 5th and 6th graders in Palo Alto. A legendary capture-the-flag player in his day, Matty spent his childhood organizing neighborhood games of kickball, wiffleball, hide-and-seek, and kick-the-can in his hometown of Belmont, a suburb of Boston. Matty recently earned his MBA from Stanford and did his undergraduate work in History at Harvard.

Gina Thomas-Santa Rosa Site Director

After spending her first 18 years as a Michigan farm girl, Gina caught the travel bug and backpacked through two dozen countries, from the clamoring city streets of Bangkok to the Great Ocean Road in Australia. Gina eventually settled in Kalamazoo where she created and directed a wilderness summer learning program for teens and founded a non-profit organization. Most recently, she earned a master's degree in psychology from Sonoma State University. When she doesn't have her nose in a book, you'll find Gina with a crochet hook and yarn, churning out afghans and scarves for her hapless friends and family. You're likely to see her at the Knitting Studio at camp, trying to figure out how to work with two needles instead of one.
