Steve and Kate's

Summer Director

We are seeking Summer Directors to join our team of young professionals for the summer of 2009. Founded in 1980, Steve and Kate's Camp is a well-established company currently in the midst of a rapid expansion effort. In response to overshelming demand by Bay Area parents, we have opened two new sites in the past two years and plan to open several more in the immediate future. Our daily attendance has grown 70% over these two years, now reaching an average of 650-700 children a day with a staff of over 100 summer employees.

We are looking for self-motivated, creative leaders who believe in our philosophy and approach. Steve and Kate's Camp philosophy revolves around the idea that each and every child is unique. We design our systems and programs around the concept of individualized education and customized solutions. We provide a range of programs including sewing, filmmaking, performing arts, music recording, sports, and more. Our structure provides opportunities for campers to choose their own activities and explore them in whatever depth appeals to them. Find out more about our philosophy, programs, and camp details.

Summer Directors are responsible for the management of one of our camp locations. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with parents, campers, and community members, supervising, supporting, motivating, and inspiring staff, evaluating activities and systems, working with external vendors, and overseeing site maintenance. This is a rare opportunity to gain valuable management experience in a multitude of areas and have an immediate impact on the success of our business.

The ideal candidate will have (or be working toward) a college degree, leadership and/or management experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience working with children, proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong problem solving and decision-making skills. Camp experience and a sense of humor is a plus. Directors must be available for the entire 9'10 week camp session and oversee the set'up and takedown of camp. A 50+ hour work week is typical for the summer. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. For the right candidate, this could develop into a year round, full time position.
